Dripping Faucets
Almost every faucet drip comes from a worn part inside the handle. Older two-handle faucets use rubber washers and seats. Most newer faucets use a cartridge or a ceramic disc. When that part wears, water slips past even with the handle closed tight.
- Drip from the spout: usually a worn cartridge, washer or seat
- Water around the base of the handle: usually a worn O-ring or seal
- Handle that’s stiff, loose or hard to turn: often the cartridge
We find the worn part, replace it with one that matches your faucet and check for leaks before we leave. If the faucet body is cracked or corroded, we’ll price a new one instead.
Low Pressure at One Faucet
If the water is weak at a single faucet and strong everywhere else, the problem is almost always at that faucet. Start with the aerator, the small screen at the tip of the spout.
Unscrew the aerator
Turn it by hand, or wrap it in a cloth and use pliers gently.
Clean the screen
Rinse out grit and mineral flakes. Soaking it in white vinegar loosens buildup.
Put it back and test
Still weak? The cartridge or supply line may be partly blocked. Call us.
Low pressure at every faucet in the house is a different problem. See repiping for what aging pipes can do to your water pressure.
Leaks Under the Sink and Shutoff Valves
Where under-sink leaks start
- Supply lines from the valves to the faucet
- The faucet’s own connections under the deck
- The P-trap and its slip nuts
- The drain basket or tailpiece where it meets the sink
Your shutoff valves
Each sink should have two small shutoff valves, one hot and one cold. They let you stop the water at that sink without shutting off the whole house. Valves left untouched for years can seize or weep. If yours are stuck or leaking, we can replace them during a faucet repair.
Found water in the cabinet? Close both shutoff valves, empty the cabinet so it can dry and call 540-300-6932.
New Sink and Faucet Installation
Kitchen
Faucet replacement, new sinks during a remodel, and the sprayer or disposal that goes with them.
Bathroom
Vanity faucets, drop-in and undermount sinks, pedestal sinks and new drain assemblies.
Laundry and utility
Utility tubs and laundry sinks in basements, garages and mudrooms.
A typical install goes like this: we shut off the water, remove the old fixture, check the valves and drain, set the new sink or faucet, connect new supply lines, then run the water and check every joint for leaks.
Choosing a New Faucet
| Choice | What to think about |
|---|---|
| Single or double handle | One handle is easier to use with full hands. Two handles give finer control of hot and cold. |
| Pull-down or pull-out spray | Handy for rinsing big pots in a kitchen. Make sure the hose has room to move under the sink. |
| Number of holes | Count the holes in your sink or countertop. A deck plate can cover extra holes. |
| Finish | Chrome is easy to clean. Brushed and matte finishes hide water spots. |
What’s in Fredericksburg Tap Water
The City’s water is disinfected with chlorine, which averaged 2.9 ppm. The report advises using “only cold water for drinking, cooking, and making baby formula.”

Sink & Faucet FAQs
Why does my faucet still drip after I close the handle tight?
A worn washer, seat or cartridge lets water slip past no matter how hard you turn the handle. Cranking it tighter can damage the parts further. Replacing the worn part usually stops the drip.
Why is the water pressure low at just one faucet?
Most often the aerator at the tip of the spout is clogged with grit or mineral flakes. If cleaning it doesn’t help, the cartridge or the supply line to that faucet may be partly blocked.
Should I replace the shutoff valves when I get a new faucet?
If the valves are stiff, weeping or won’t close all the way, yes. It’s easiest while the faucet is already off.
Why does my kitchen sprayer have weak flow or drip from the hose?
Weak spray usually means a clogged spray head or a sticking diverter, the part that sends water to the sprayer. Drips under the sink usually mean a worn hose or a loose connection. Both can be repaired without replacing the whole faucet.
Has lead been found in Fredericksburg city water?
In the City’s 2025 sampling, lead was not detected at the 90th percentile and none of the 30 sites were over the action level, per the 2026 Water Quality Report. The same report says to flush your pipes for several minutes before using tap water for drinking or cooking, since fixtures and solder in a home can still play a part.
