What is a Ductless HVAC System?

When you’re home is older than a certain age, you can expect that it doesn’t have duct work. This isn’t a surprise to us, as Fredericksburg has such history and historic homes. In fact, you might be functioning on heating and cooling units that are wall-mounted in various rooms in your house. This may involve ductless mini-splits, for example. So, in this blog post, we’ll talk about ductless HVAC systems and their pros and cons.

Mini-Splits

Mini-splits are often wall-mounted air conditioning and/or heating units. These work for homes that have issues with zoning and temperature. Essentially, if your home has lots of space that’s not distributed evenly – like a too large living room and a tiny bedroom – it may have heating and cooling issues because of this. A mini-split works to draw air from outside and pull in through tubing and a refrigerant process, causing cool air or warmer air to be pushed indoors. This is a significantly simple and easy solution for room temperature problems in ductless homes.

Pros Versus Cons

The cost of the device itself is a little pricey. It can run in the thousands of dollars. However, it is extremely energy efficient because it is ductless. You really have to weigh the pros and cons, and most of the time, the pros outweigh the cons. You can’t compete with comfort.
